Wollastonite has industrial importance worldwide. It is used in many industries, mostly by tile factories which have incorporated it into the manufacturing of ceramic to improve many performance parameters, and this is due to its fluxing properties, freedom from volatile constituents, whiteness, and acicular particle shape.

In ceramics, wollastonite decreases shrinkage and gas evolution during firing, increases green and fired strength, maintains brightness during firing, permits fast firing, and reduces crazing, cracking, and glaze defects

As a substitute for asbestos in floor tiles, friction products, insulating board and panels, paint, plastics, and roofing products, wollastonite is resistant to chemical attack, inert, stable at high temperatures, and improves flexural and tensile strength. In some industries, it is used in different percentages of impurities, such as its use as a fabricator of mineral wool insulation, or as an ornamental building material.Wollastonite is used in a cement announced in 2019 which "reduces the overall carbon footprint in precast concrete by 70%." Wollastonite has been studied for carbon mineralization for storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) according to the following reaction.

Properties

Wollastonite is an inorganic needle-like mineral, and wollastonite products have very noticeable acicular and long fiber structures .It is characterized by non-toxicity, chemical corrosion resistance, good thermal stability and dimensional stability, glass and pearl luster, low water absorption and oil absorption value, excellent mechanical and electrical properties,even reinforcing effect. Wollastonite products with long fibers and easy separation, low iron content and high whiteness.

Wollatonite is Widely used in plastics, rubber, asbestos substitutes, paint coatings and other fields, it can increase the hardness, flexural strength, impact resistance of products, improve the electrical properties of materials, improve thermal stability and dimensional stability, and is the most promising application field. It is also used in the ceramics and metallurgical industries. The SiO2 and CaO components in wollastonite provide low expansion rate and good thermal shock resistance.
