Wollastonite is an inorganic needle-mineral, and wollastonite products have very noticeable acicular and long fiber structures .It is characterized by non-toxicity, chemical corrosion resistance, good thermal stability and dimensional stability, glass and pearl luster, low water absorption and oil absorption value, excellent mechanical and electrical properties,even reinforcing effect. Wollastonite products with long fibers and easy separation, low iron content and high whiteness.

As wollastonite is natural, nontoxic, odorless and radiation free, high slenderness ratio acicular wollastonite powder from long fiber wollastonite ores has become a new environment-friend building material as a substitute for short fiber asbestos or short fiber glass fiber that is harmful to the human body. Presently it is widely applied to calcium silicate board, fiber cement products, sound absorbing board and new multifunctional composite fireproofing sheeting. Calcium silicate board and fireproofing sheeting incorporating acicular wollastonite powder provide much higher impact, flexural and wear strengths and are widely used in Japan, South Korea, Mainland China and Taiwan.

Friction: Due to its physical structure and non-hazardous properties, wollastonite is used as a reinforcing additive in many friction applications. It is also a partial/full replacement for asbestos, milled fibres, chopped glass and synthetic materials. Its primary application is in semi-metallic and nonasbestos formulations for truck blocks, drum linings, disc pads and friction paper. Benefits of using wollastonite in a friction formulation include improved physical and mechanical properties, reduction or elimination of cracking, improved pre-form strength, improved friction stability, noise reduction and reduced raw material and unit cost (density).
