Overview: A Dove prism is used to rotate, invert, or retroreflect an image, depending
upon the prism's rotation angle and the surface through which the
light enters the prism. Image Rotation A beam of light travelling parallel to the longitudinal axis,
entering one of the sloped faces of the prism undergoes total
internal reflection from the inside of the longest (bottom) face
and emerges from the opposite sloped face. Images passing through
the prism are flipped (mirrored), and because only one reflection
takes place, the image is also inverted but not laterally
transposed. Retroreflection When light is incident on the longest face, the Dove prism acts as
a retroreflector or a right-angle prism. The light exits parallel
to the input light (independent of the incidence angle) and is
inverted by 180° General Specifications of Dove Prism: Material | BK7 | | Dimension Tolerance | ±0.2mm | Flatness | λ/4@632.8nm | Angle Tolerance | <3arc minutes | Surface Quality | 60/40 scratch and dig | Clear Aperture | >90% | Chamfer | Protective<0.5mm@45° | Coating | No coating, available |
