Binding agent of choice in the manufacture of silicon bricks
Binding agents used in the manufacture of silicon bricks include sulphite pulp waste liquor and lime milk.Limestone milk acts as a plasticizer when used as a binder.The lime milk increases the strength of the brick during drying and becomes a mineralizer during firing, promoting the transformation of quartz.
Lime should contain a large amount of active CaO, not more than 5% of undecomposed CaCO3 and MgCO3, and more than 5% of Al2O3+Fe2O3+SO2F.When there are large particles of underburned CA-CO3 and overburned lime, the product will produce melting holes, which will affect the quality of the product.
The addition amount of lime should be converted into CaO, which varies according to different products and usually fluctuates between 1.5 ~ 2.5%.For example, in the production of coke oven silica brick, the CaO content is 2.0 ~ 3.0%;In the production of electric furnace top silica brick, the CaO added amount is 1.4 ~ 1.75%.

The batching characteristics of silicon brick
Adopt high quality silica with impurity content less than 0.5%, and wash with tap water before mixing to ensure the quality of early stage.The sintering temperature can be reduced by 20℃ when fast converting quartz is mixed with slow converting quartz.When the critical particle size is reduced from 3mm to 2mm during the mixing process, the interface energy of the material can be increased and the quartz transformation can be promoted.
In addition, the selection of new mineralizers is also very important to improve the quality of products.At present, most producers in the ingredients to add mineralizers are still lime milk and iron scales.In order to improve the softening temperature under load, the amount of FeO added has been reduced from 2.5% to less than 1%.If the use of feldspar minerals containing alkali metals or composite mineralizers can receive better results.
The feeding sequence of silica brick mud
All kinds of silica powder and waste silica brick powder were added into the wet mill at a certain ratio, and then dry mixed for 2 ~ 3min, followed by the mixture of sulphite pulp waste liquid, lime milk and iron oxide powder, and then mixed for 8 ~ 17min according to the requirements of the molding method.
The mixing time depends on the weight of the roller, the number of revolutions, the amount of raw materials, the hardness of raw materials, the composition of the particles and the molding method.Special-shaped bricks and handmade mud require longer mixing time than mechanical mud.Mixing time of different mud materials should be determined by experiment.
The moisture content of the mud material for manufacturing silicon brick is generally 5 ~ 9%, the moisture content of the mud material for manual molding is 7 ~ 9%, and the moisture content of the mud material for mechanical molding is 5 ~ 6%.

The requirements of siliceous raw materials for the production of silicon bricks are generally considered from the following perspectives.
(1) the purity
In the production of silicon bricks, the content of SiO2 and Al2O3 should be no less than 96% and 1.2% ~ 1.6% respectively.The total content of alkali metal oxides should not exceed 0.2% ~ 0.4%, and the impurity content in silica should not exceed 0.5% for high-quality silicon bricks.

The general requirements of dense silica, because of the loose texture, the product porosity is high.
(3) Speed of transformation
Since the conversion rate of silica directly affects the brick-making process, it is necessary to know the conversion situation before use.
