Bimetallic Tubesheet Floating Head Exchanger | 316L Tubes on SA350
LF2 Clad | Engineered for Differential Corrosion Service
Yuhong Holding Group: Fabricators of High-Value Process Equipment
Yuhong Holding Group Co., Ltd. delivers certified thermal and
mechanical solutions. Our core competence lies in custom ASME pressure vessels, heat exchangers of all major designs, and
air-cooled heat exchangers. We support these systems with a full line of engineered replacement cores, specialty tubing (U-bend, finned), and genuine
OEM components.
Product Profile: The Economically Durable Floating Head Design
This floating head heat exchanger is specifically configured for processes where the tube-side
and shell-side fluids present drastically different corrosivity.
Its defining feature is the use of a bimetallic tubesheet, marrying the structural economy of SA350 LF2 forged carbon steel with the localized corrosion resistance of a bonded 316L stainless steel layer. Coupled with a full 316L stainless steel tube bundle, it targets longevity where it matters most.

Engineering Insight: The Economic Logic of Clad Construction
In process design, material cost often scales non-linearly with
alloy performance. A solid 316L tubesheet for a large exchanger is prohibitively expensive. The clad solution applies a minimum thickness (typically 3-10mm) of the
corrosion-resistant alloy only to the face and bore holes, where
contact with the aggressive tube-side fluid occurs. The backing
material (SA350 LF2) provides the necessary mechanical strength at
a lower cost. This is not a compromise, but a smart, ASME-codified
engineering practice for optimizing capital expenditure (CAPEX)
without sacrificing critical service life.
Operational Benefits & Project Value
CAPEX Optimization: Achieves the corrosion performance of high-grade alloys for
the wetted surface while significantly reducing material costs
compared to solid alloy construction.
Lifecycle Integrity: The metallurgically bonded clad interface ensures long-term
integrity, superior to weld overlays in withstanding thermal
cycling and mechanical stress.
Unmatched Serviceability: The floating head design permits complete bundle extraction, enabling inspection, cleaning, or repair of both the 316L tubes and the clad tubesheet face without cutting piping on the
stationary end.
Ideal Application Scope: Specifically engineered for offshore seawater cooling (tube-side) with sweet cooling media on
shell-side, chemical processes with one highly corrosive stream, or
any application with a pronounced corrosion asymmetry between
sides.
