Paper COBB Absorption Tester is mainly used for determination of sized paper and cardboard including surface water imbibition of the corrugated cardboard. The instrument is determination of absorbent paper and cardboard surface, but is not suitable for accurate evaluation of paper or paperboard writing performance.

For unsized papers such as blotting papers and other papers having relatively high water absorbency the Klemm method for determining water absorbency is used.
