Nickel and its alloys are frequently used as catalysts for hydrogenation reactions. Raney nickel, a finely divided nickel-aluminium alloy, is one common form, though related catalysts are also used, including Raney-type catalysts. Pure nickel wire has good high temperature strength, the
characteristics of low resistivity.
Nickel 201 is a low carbon variety compared with Nickel 200, possessing low annealed hardness and a very low work-hardening rate, desirable for cold forming operations. It is highly resistant to corrosion by neutral and alkaline salt solutions, fluorine and chlorine, but in oxidising salt solutions severe attack will occur.
