Our tatami grappling mats range from 1 1/4 to 1 5/8 inch thick. As a general rule, the thicker the mat, the better cushion and protection it offers for falls, but hardness and density does play a role in fall protection. The Grappling MMA Mats are the only ones to be tested for critical fall height and has earned a 4 foot fall height rating by the ASTM.
