Ultrasonic Vibration Piezoelectric Ceramic Discs for Medical
Instruments Piezoelectric ceramic materials are electromechanical transducers: They can convert
mechanical energy into electrical energy and
vice-versa. Piezoelectric ceramic material from us are used in sensors, actuators, gas ignition
and in power transducers for high-power ultrasonic applications. When a voltage is applied to a piezoelectric ceramic, mechanical
deformation occurs as a function of voltage and frequency. On the
other hand, when the piezoelectric ceramic is vibrated, an electric
charge is generated. With this principle, when a vibrator composed
of two piezoelectric ceramics or a piece of piezoelectric ceramic
and a metal piece, called a bimorph element, is applied with an
electric signal, ultrasonic waves are emitted due to bending
vibration. Conversely, when ultrasonic vibration is applied to the
bimorph element, an electrical signal is generated. Based on the
above effects, piezoelectric ceramics can be used as an ultrasonic
sensor.
